Job Advert - Samuel Beckett's Cul CroI8

GREAT CURATOR WANTED
Be Part of It: Our Creative Tomorrow

Who We Are

We’re CúlCroÍ8@Beckett and we’re here to stay. Situated right across from Dublin’s iconic Beckett Bridge and right next door to the burgeoning and dynamic digital hub, we’re a team of seven engaged, motivated and positive individuals – from writers, advertisers, creatives, journalists and IT whizzes to business entrepreneurs – who are currently ripping up the cultural rulebook and striking out in a spirit of innovation, engagement and productivity. We’re seeking to open up a new kind of art to the community, an art that’s open and marked by the crossing of boundaries, whether they be between media, between modes of practice, between culture and business – or between each other as human beings. And now, we’re looking for a curator as our eighth member. Could that be YOU?

Our Philosophy
Our philosophy is Samuel Beckett’s philosophy: to take things to the next level and push boundaries in a spirit of creative cooperation between culture, community and business. This is summed up in our name: 'Cul' (Irish for ‘cool’, in this case, to be pronounced, “Coooooooooooooool”) is ripped straight from Beckett’s last masterpiece, the movie Krapp’s Last Rape, which the great man wrote right after the Beckett Bridge was opened in his honour. ‘CroI8’ (pronounced ‘Create’) is a composite. ‘Croi,’ Irish for ‘heart’, sums up that place within each of us – and, we sincerely believe, within each and every one of us – from which creativity springs. We’ve enlarged the ‘I’ because, although we’re all creatives, each single creative is unique. Finally, the ‘8’ refers to the eight of us – possibly including you! Our understanding of the creative process itself is summed up in the diagram below:

Who We’re Looking For
You will be an engaged, dynamic team player eager to shake up the Dublin arts scene with an injection of fast-paced creative lifeblood. Business-savvy but culturally aware, you’ll know what is what, what is not, and what is hot enough for us. Your skills will include:

  • All administrative skills required for this role
  • Cultural know-what, from the beat of the street to the gallery chic
  • A passion for networking
  •  A dynamic history of irrepressible community engagement
  • Almost (stress: almost) maniacal levels of positivity
  • Creativity – in spades!
  • Preferably 5 years plus curating exhibitions in world-class institutions
  • The willingness to work long hours at highly unclear tasks for little or no pay
  • A postgraduate qualification in one of the following areas is preferred: Ambition, Entrepreneurship, Social Media Manipulation, Curatoriology, or Creativity (or Advertising)

How to Apply

Want to get on board? To apply, simply take the following two steps:

1) Send us a link to your LinkedIn profile, along with login details for all your social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr).

2) Send us your CV – just kidding! We’re not grey like that. Be creative. Think about who you are and what you do, and then send us something that shows us that. It can be about anything – just as long as it’s coooooooooool!
